Madeira Smocking Thread
Madeira Smocking Thread
200m
Madeira Heat Reactive Smocking thread 200m. This is the third in the series of Madeira's Special Effect Threads. Smocking is a heat reactive thread that shrinks when an iron is drawn over it, whereas the fabric does not, causing the fabric to pucker in a controlled way. The wrinkled effects are beautiful and limitless.
How it works"
Stick with a simple design that consists mostly of run stitches and have a lot of negative space. To make the embroidery 'shrink, or puff up' the thread needs to be exposed to heat. With a steam iron, turn the fabric over to the WRONG side, bobbin side up with a light pressure, iron the reverse. If you use heavy pressure you will achieve a 'wrinkled' effect. 200m reel.
