Always weigh clean fabric while it is completely dry. More fabric than the full-shade allowance normally means a lighter result, not extra coverage at the same depth.

Which DYLON dye should I choose?
Choose a Machine Dye Pod for an easy, even front-loader transformation; Hand Dye 50g for smaller or creative hand-dye projects; Wash & Dye Intense Black for refreshing faded suitable black fabric; or professional Dypro 500g for larger workloads and its own fibre-specific methods. Start with fibre content and dry weight before choosing colour.
What is the difference between DYLON Machine Dye and Hand Dye?
Machine Dye Pods are an all-in-one format designed for front-loading washing machines and include the required salt and fixing agents. DYLON Hand Dye is mixed in a warm hand-dye bath, needs 250g of salt and gives more control for smaller items and creative effects.
How much fabric does one DYLON packet dye?
A Machine Dye Pod colours up to approximately 600g of suitable dry fabric at full shade; one Hand Dye 50g sachet colours up to approximately 250g; and Wash & Dye Intense Black covers up to approximately 500g. Larger loads produce lighter results. Dypro dosage varies by colour and method.
Can I dye polyester clothing with DYLON?
Pure polyester does not take domestic DYLON Machine Dye, Hand Dye or Wash & Dye. A cotton/polyester or viscose/polyester blend may colour only in its natural-fibre portion, creating a lighter finish. Dypro is also not suitable for pure polyester.
Do I need salt with DYLON fabric dye?
It depends on the product. DYLON Machine Dye Pods are all-in-one, so no extra salt is normally needed. The standard DYLON Hand Dye method requires 250g salt. Always follow the exact directions on the product you purchased.
Can fabric dye make dark material lighter?
No. Dye adds colour and combines with the shade already in the fabric; it does not bleach or remove the starting colour. Pale-to-dark transformations are usually the most predictable.
Will DYLON hide bleach marks or stains?
Not reliably. Bleach damage, oil, stains and uneven fading can absorb dye differently and remain visible. Dye behaves within the fibre rather than forming an opaque coating over the surface.
What is the difference between Colour Catcher and Colour Run Remover?
DYLON Colour Catcher is used during a normal wash to trap loose dye and help reduce transfer. SARD Colour Run Remover is used after unwanted colour transfer has occurred, with separate products for whites and coloured fabrics. Treat colour runs promptly and before tumble drying.
