What crochet hook size do I need?
Start with the size recommended by your pattern and check the yarn label. Make a tension swatch and adjust the hook if needed to match the pattern’s gauge. There is no single correct hook for every yarn weight: the stitch, fibre and fabric you want also matter. Use the millimetre measurement when comparing brands or patterns, as letter and number systems can differ.
Should I buy one hook or a set?
Buy an individual hook for a specific pattern, a missing size or to try a new handle shape. A set gives you several sizes for changing yarns and adjusting tension. Compare the exact sizes included, rather than just the smallest and largest: not every set includes every intermediate size. Which handle and material will suit me?

Are interchangeable hooks the same as Tunisian hooks?
Not always. Tunisian crochet holds multiple loops across a row and needs suitable working length. Prym Natural Tunisian tips require a compatible cord, sold separately; check each set’s contents for included cables and fittings. KnitPro Symfonie 2 is a Tunisian hook-and-cable set. By contrast, Oasis Starter and Oasis Chunky change hook heads on a handle for ordinary crochet, not cable-based Tunisian work.
Which hooks are for fine thread and lace?
The listed Tulip Etimo Rose steel hooks cover 0.40–0.90mm options, while the Clover Amour Steel set contains seven sizes from 0.60–1.75mm. These are fine-thread tools, not substitutes for standard yarn-hook sizes. Follow the diameter specified by your pattern and check the selected size before ordering.
